For a long time, I believed progress came from doing more. Training harder, pushing through the pain, and staying in motion.
Over time, that started to change. I began to see the body the same way I see any system. Inputs matter, but regulation decides the outcome. When your nervous system is supported, everything else improves. Recovery, focus, energy, and even how you carry yourself.
That shift in perspective is what led me to red light therapy.
At first, the results were obvious. Skin health improved, and recovery from training was through the roof. But the more time I spent with it, the more I wanted to understand why. Red light became less about outcomes and more about root-level topics. Like, servous system regulation, lymphatic drainage and flow, blood circulation, and of course, cellular energy.
I co-founded Renew Red Light with my girlfriend, Ali. We’ve both spent years taking care of our bodies through movement, athletics, injury rehab, nutrition, and supplementation. We’ve learned by doing and staying curious about what actually helps the body adapt, rather than just tolerating stress.
Once I understood how light supports regulation, cortisol management, and lymphatic movement, aspects and feelings in my daily life began to make sense.
Building Renew has opened up a depth of learning I didn’t expect. About regulation, about recovery, and about how much potential people leave on the table when their systems are constantly overstimulated.
My fascination with the nervous system and cellular energy continues to grow. And so does this Renew Red Light! 🚀
@LewisHowes@MrRenewRedLight I'm shifting my account towards all things red light therapy, functional and regenerative medicine, and announcements of building my company. It's very exciting! Please follow along!
This is a big win for Renew!
We were featured in a deep dive on red light therapy in the Eudōmonia newsletter.
It’s an incredible breakdown of what red light therapy does at a biological level.
Red light therapy isn’t new. LEDs have been used in medical and clinical settings for decades. LED therapy is used for healing, pain, recovery, and skin health. What’s new is that people are finally paying attention and bringing this technology into their homes, fitness studios, and daily routines.
My partner, Ali Gay, and I started Renew from scratch, knowing this space would grow. But more importantly, we knew it needed to be done right. With integrity, real education, and products that actually work.
We didn’t build Renew to chase the wellness trend. We built it because we are two athletes who spent years searching for solutions to chronic pain, injury recovery, and performance optimization.
Seeing Renew included in a research-backed conversation like this feels validating. Not in an ego way. In a quiet “we’re on the right path” way.
I am beyond grateful for everyone who’s trusted us, supported us, and brought Renew into their lives.
We are still learning, still building, and have very ambitious goals for Renew Red Light.
I don’t talk about Renew often, but I want to share why we started it. This is the story behind Renew Red Light and why I’m so proud of it.
For anyone who doesn’t know, Renew Red Light is a company Ali Gay and I built together. We sell red light therapy devices, which, in simple terms, are panels of LEDs that emit specific wavelengths of light that exist naturally in sunlight. Those wavelengths can penetrate your skin and interact with the mitochondria, helping cells produce more ATP (energy). When cells have more energy, they’re better at doing what they’re supposed to do, like repairing tissue, supporting circulation, relieving pain, improving skin health, and recovering more efficiently.
That part is fascinating. But it’s not why we started the company.
Renew exists because Ali and I decided to build something together. In all honesty, it wouldn’t be what it is without her. She’s the spine of this operation. We’ve both spent most of our careers in marketing and leadership roles, learning from great mentors, difficult managers, and some truly incredible teams. We took those lessons with us and decided to build something real.
Sunlight in a box won.
Renew made it through its first year. More than that, it grew. We learned how to manufacture, ship, sell, support customers, and stand behind a product people bring into their homes, studios, and clinics.
Looking back, I don’t see a perfect year. I see a real one. A year of learning how to build something that actually helps people. A year of figuring out what matters and letting go of what doesn’t.
Renew doesn’t feel like a side project anymore. It feels like something we’re responsible for. Something that deserves patience, care, and long-term thinking.
I’m proud of what we’ve built so far. Proud of Ali. Proud of the people who believed in us early. And grateful that the work I get to do also supports my health, recovery, and mental clarity.
This isn’t the beginning anymore. And it’s definitely not the end.
Hey @bertkreischer I heard you could use some red light therapy to help out your eyesight. I own Renew Red Light. We'd love to send you a couple of devices!
