Explain Fair vs. Equal for your students. Fair in this classroom means everyone gets what they need to be successful. It does not mean that everyone gets the same thing. Some students may get extra time on a test or a different homework assignment. Equal means everyone gets the same assignment and that wouldn't be fair to some students. Once students understand the difference between these two words, the complaining that "You are not being fair" should stop!

1. We can’t control other people, only how you respond to other people.
2. Stay personally connected to students without taking personally what they do or say.
3. Discomfort is the appetizer for growth. You can’t grow without discomfort.
4. We need to listen to students without expectations.
5. Every day is a new day. Don’t hold grudges.
6. Behaviors are not the problems, they are the solutions kids choose to their problems.
7. I have to look at myself for the role I may have played in the situation.
