Dear Scorpion Kings, Amapiano community, artists, organisers, partners, and everyone who made yesterday's Scorpion Kings Live at FNB Stadium possible:

What a night!

Yesterday was more than a concert; it was a powerful demonstration of what South African artists and our creative industry can achieve at scale.

The last time I experienced this level of coordination and national excitement at FNB
Stadium was during the Global Citizen Festival: Mandela 100 on 2 December 2018, when Beyoncé and JAY-Z joined South African and international artists.

I am not comparing artists or productions. Rather, I am saying that South African talent belongs on the biggest stages and yesterday proved that we can create world-class experiences ourselves. The scale, production, performances, and coordination reminded me of the standard
associated with major global music events, including the 2022 Super Bowl halftime show. The achievement here is that this was built around South African artists, Amapiano and our own creative ecosystem.

Celebrating a Professorial Inauguration | Professor Mandla J. Radebe

The University of Johannesburg hosted the Professorial Inauguration of Professor Mandla J. Radebe, Professor in Strategic Communication, on Tuesday, 15 September 2026.

The occasion marked an important academic milestone as Prof Radebe formally delivered his inaugural address, titled “From the National Question to the Digital Question: Strategic Communication, Power and South Africa’s Unfinished Democratic Project.”

The inaugural address explored the evolving relationship between strategic communication, power and democracy in the context of South Africa’s digital landscape.

In attendance was Honourable Minister of Justice and Constitutional Development of South Africa, Mmamoloko Kubayi, alongside members of the University community and distinguished guests.

Prof Radebe’s address was followed by a response from Professor Nicole Stremlau, Professor of Law and Society in a Digital World at the Centre for Socio-Legal Studies, University of Oxford.

The Professorial Inauguration provided an opportunity to celebrate Prof Radebe’s academic journey and contribution to the field of strategic communication, while engaging with important questions shaping South Africa’s democratic project in the digital age.
