I’m in engineering. My laptop has $2k of licensed software for my senior project. It doesn’t leave my desk.
My dormmate kept asking to “just use it for Netflix” because his was slow.

I said no. Every time.
“Too much important stuff on here. Use the library computers.”

He waited until I was in the shower, grabbed it, and spilled Dr Pepper on the keyboard. Fried the motherboard.
Repair: $900. Data recovery: $300.

His response: “It’s just a laptop bro. My parents bought yours anyway.”
They didn’t. I worked 2 jobs for it.

RA said: “You guys should just work it out. Don’t make it a whole thing.”

I didn’t.
I filed a campus police report for destruction of property and took him to small claims.
Won $1,200.

He had to drop a class to pick up more shifts to pay me.
Now the whole floor says I “got him kicked out of school” because he failed that class.
No. He got himself kicked out of my trust when he picked up my laptop.
