Found out I am teaching History at KS3 and IGCSE next academic year. I have previously taught English, Drama and Media Studies. I have an A Level in History and did study History in the first year of my degree. Looking to connect with other History Teachers. #igcsehistory
@Strickomaster @TomBellwoodCLT I suppose there is no one size fits all. It depends on context and needs. But there is definitely no need to make changes because of your job title.
@Strickomaster Also, people coming in and changing everything because they feel like they have to justify their jobs. Rather than seeing what works and what doesn’t before deciding what to change.
@jonnybid@kennygfrederick 2/2 on the internet, little and often. Yes, novels absolutely have their place, but I think, as the world evolves, so too should our understanding of reading and ‘engagement’ with it. Many of the set texts for literature are still dead white Englishmen. There’s a need to change.
@jonnybid@kennygfrederick I think the problem is that ‘reading’ is seen in the traditional sense. Picking up a novel and reading from cover to cover. As someone that teaches Media Studies as well as English, I can tell you students read all the time. They read subtitles in games and TV, they read 1/2
Going to be starting my first SLT post in August 2026. Secondary Assistant Head Learning and Teaching. Any advice or links would be greatly appreciated.
@jk_rowling But I thought your name was JK Rowling… I think they delivered Robert’s books to the wrong address. HE may want them back… as far as I know, you identify as a woman… I would be alerting the publisher that you received the wrong books… not publicising it on X…
@jk_rowling 2/2 his books are still studied in English Literature at GCSE and A Level today. Your works are not! Releasing a book under a male name as you thought it would do better, but it didn’t. It did well when you revealed who you were. It’s about your notoriety and fame, not talent!
@jk_rowling Also according to ChatGPT ‘At the time of publication, it was presented as the debut work of a former military police officer’ referring to The Cuckoo’s Calling under the name Robert Galbraith... isn’t impersonating a Police Officer a criminal offence?
@jk_rowling Another point I’d like to make about this is that Shakespeare (one of the greatest writers of all time) wrote many a play where men dressed as women and women dressed as men (and all the actors were men) and his plays are still performed almost 500 years later 1/2
I have two copies of The Visualiser Handbook to give away.
This is for busy teachers who need concise clarity to make live modelling an effect part of their practice ASAP.
To enter, follow, like and retweet this post and I will draw winners at random on the 18th July.
@Headteacherchat I was forced to stay in a job until Christmas once, I handed my notice in the day after the deadline. Needless to say, I wasn’t happy and the school didn’t benefit in any way.
