The trouble is many people equate academic with elitism. Why should academic students be forced into learning that is below their ability?

The name for the academic stream is perhaps a misnomer and therefore seem as better. That is false. Well written and taught applied courses are equally suitable for anyone.

This is not nee and not controversial. It is pragmatic and ethical for all. Destreaming does it equal equity, if that is the aim.

Academic level courses are an advantage for those in them. 3. Students will only follow teacher recommendations without parental consultation.

I have made these very suggestions based on my expert opinion as a trained educator. If the student elects to ignore them, so be it.

Applied level courses are not a punishment nor are they something to "affect" people.

It is true that students demonstrating higher academic achievement were streamed to academic, as differentiation best practices suggest, and those needing more direct support and less academic rigor, applied.

Those who needed a greater hands-on and applied approach to curriculum got it. Each group was generally learning alongside peers with similar needs and desires. Now...?
