ANC MESSAGE AT SIGNING OF THE ELECTORAL CODE OF CONDUCT AND THE CODE OF CONDUCT COUNTERING DISINFORMATION

Chairperson of the Electoral Commission, leaders of political parties, fellow South Africans, Local government is the sphere of government closest to the everyday lives of citizens and their communities. These elections are an important moment of democratic choice and accountability.
The ANC signs these Codes of Conduct today with a clear commitment to free, fair, peaceful and credible elections. We will campaign vigorously and contest ideas robustly.

But we will do so within the law, respecting the rights of every voter, every candidate and every political party. We reject violence, intimidation, lies and disinformation. We respect the constitutional role of the Electoral Commission
and the lawful processes through which differences are resolved. Citizens deserve an election in which they can make their
choices freely, on the basis of facts, and hold all of us who seek public office to account.

In that spirit, we reaffirm our commitment to continue building safer and better communities, together - to create A Better Life for All, Let us compete strongly, fairly and peacefully, and let the people decide. I thank you
