I am truly proud and delighted to see our colleague, Bushra, elected as Vice President of the AU EOA Initiative Agroecology Youth Caucus. This is a remarkable achievement for Bushra, for Somalia, for the African continent, and for young people across Africa. Her election is a strong recognition of the capacity, commitment, and leadership of African youth in advancing agroecology, sustainable food systems, climate action, and resilient communities.

I have no doubt that Bushra will bring passion, integrity, and a strong youth voice to this important platform. Congratulations, Bushra, and wishing you every success in this new leadership journey. Somalia is proud of you!

The Africa Regional Youth Summit on Agroecology, Business and CAADP was an important regional platform for advancing youth leadership, innovation, and meaningful participation in Africa’s agroecological transformation. Over 150 young agroecology entrepreneurs, policymakers, and development partners from across Africa gathered in Kampala from 24–26 August 2026 to explore opportunities for youth-led agroecological businesses and sustainable solutions.

The summit highlighted the enormous potential of young people to lead agroecological enterprises, strengthen sustainable food systems, create livelihoods, and contribute to climate resilience. It also called for greater access to finance, markets, skills, and policy influence to enable young entrepreneurs to scale their sustainable solutions and contribute meaningfully to Africa’s agricultural transformation.

It was particularly encouraging to see Somali youth represented at such an important regional platform, creating opportunities to share Somalia’s experiences, learn from others, strengthen regional networks, and explore partnerships. For Somalia, these discussions are highly relevant to advancing youth and women’s leadership, climate resilience, sustainable livelihoods, and resilient food systems. Platforms like this are essential for ensuring that young people are not only participants but also entrepreneurs, innovators, decision-makers, and leaders in shaping Africa’s sustainable future.

Excited to officially take over the leadership and assume responsibilities as the Minister of Fisheries and Blue Economy of South West State from my predecessor, Hon. Abdifatah, during today’s handover ceremony.

This marks the beginning of a new chapter in advancing the fisheries and blue economy sector in South West State of Somalia. My priorities will focus on promoting sustainable fisheries, strengthen marine conservation and biodiversity, enhance food security, create employment opportunities, and empower our coastal communities through inclusive and sustainable fisheries development.

I look forward to working closely with government institutions, development partners, the private sector, fishing communities, and all stakeholders to unlock the immense potential of our marine resources and deliver meaningful, lasting impact for the people of South West State.
