It’s tragic that Nasir El-Rufai remains unlawfully detained for over a month, denied bail by the ICPC/court under the influence of the NSA, and will not even be able to see his mother before her burial, even as heartfelt condolences are being offered for her passing. While condolences can be meaningful, they must be sincere, rooted in justice, and guided by the fear of Allah. Offering sympathy while directly or indirectly contributing to someone else’s suffering exposes a lack of true empathy and moral conscience, and reminds us that anyone could one day face such a predicament.
