Our disciplinary system is mainly unilateral and often ineffective. This may “seem” to work for students who are better behaved, but it doesn’t truly work for any student. All students possess lagging skills that need to be idenitified, addressed, and taught.

The main problem facing kids is our lack of understanding their unsolved problems and behaviors. Adults have theories about the behavior, but they're usually wrong. Throw out the theories and analyze the whom, what, where, and when to get to the real issue(s).

I was shocked at how quickly everything escalated! Joey absolutely suffered in this narrative, but so did those around him. Joey was humiliated, Mom is out of options, and his teacher was misguided. All of the staff members could have reacted differently.
