Reviving my Teacher Twitter account to show off my Black History Month book display! I would like to note how important it is to amplify Black voices year-round, and not just in February. Representation matters and diverse children’s literature is one way to achieve this.
If you don’t have books in your classroom that look like ALL of your students, I’m sorry, but you’re doing it wrong 😤 Children need diverse texts as mirrors, windows, and sliding glass doors! (Bishop, 1990)
As a NC public school teacher, my classroom will always continue to be a safe space for all students and their families. That is what my profession calls for and that is good pedagogy. #nced
This is a huge equity issue. Access to transportation should not determine a child’s ability to receive an education. I want to see people as impassioned about this pressing issue as they are about banning books 😬 Hoping that a more equitable solution is coming soon. #nced
Lack of drivers means Wake County can't provide buses for all riders. School board chair Lindsay Mahaffey:“We can say it’s a crisis at this point.” Vice Chair Chris Heagarty: "We will have some kids who will not be able to attend school if transportation is not provided." #wcpss
I’m so excited to share that I will be teaching 2nd grade at @cary_elementary this year! I’ve really enjoyed being a part of this school community as a regular substitute, and now I’m back teaching my fave grade level! #carycougars#MrsBisback!
@nckhui Like bifocals? Usually the distance vision prescription is at the top of the glasses & the reading glasses part is at the bottom. You have to tilt your head down when reading. 🤓It’s an adjustment, but shouldn’t be causing major headaches!
3) It is divisive to put teachers who are moms on a higher pedestal than non-moms, assuming that they know more about kids, therefore are better teachers
4) Teachers who are not parents are still caring professionals w/ great ideas & their own valuable experiences w/ kids
THIS! We’ve got to stop telling young, female teachers “oh, you don’t understand because you’re not a mother yet.” 1) What a personal assumption to make. 2) People can have maternal & paternal instincts w/o having their own biological kids!
this has been discussed before, but have to say i really dislike in #edchat convos when mothers (and it's usually mothers doing this) dismiss the ideas & contributions of women who aren't mothers. it's not just incredibly rude, it's also really counterproductive
Y’all, I think my heart might just burst wide open! I showed up at my fave school @LaurelParkElem to sub, and I was greeted with a stack of teacher appreciation notes from my precious 3rd graders from my long term sub job! 😭 #TeacherApprecationWeek
