I was a teacher for (many) years before discovering I really wasn't teaching.

I was talking, assigning, grading.

And I thought I was teaching. Truly.

I wasn't. I didn't start teaching until I learned to respond to each kid's learning.

That is where/when I become a teacher.

@AkieaG Agree with what others say here. Honor their preferences, whether it’s the same book or page. Involve them by letting them turn pages, investigate pictures, etc. Interaction with a book is key, even if it takes forever to get through!

My fav moment today was simple & sweet. After going over our agenda and asking if anyone had any ?s, one S called out “I do- how are you?” This led me to make space for us to check in with each other. These small moments of connection are what we all need more of these days.

The best days are when the creativity is flowing! Ss are compiling what they’ve learned about various ecosystems to create a project of their choice! Must show climate, living/no living features, landforms, etc. These kiddos are so imaginative!

Today we staged a “deci-mall” to practice adding & subtracting decimals. These kiddos created such imaginative businesses & products (iPads to ramen to ninja star folding lessons) and had fun spending their (play) $! Great way to see real world application for our math learning!

Yesterday was #WorldMentalHeathDay. As teachers, we are not doing ourselves or our profession any good if we continue to pretend like we're doing okay if we're not. Work reasonable hours. Accept personal limits. Prioritize self-care. Take time if you need time. #MondayMotivation
