TDA prep doesn’t have to be worksheets and independent work!
Westinghouse Scholars are collaborating to determine text evidence to support their analysis of a character’s emotional state throughout a story, and they’re CRUSHING it.
I love Wednesdays in October. The best part of this is after today they will believe in their ability to tell a cohesive, descriptive story and their ability to write for 10+ minutes. #weirdwriting#Westinghouse@PPSnews
I took my kiddos to the library to select an independent novel. After they chose, they sat down and played chess. Only one or two kids knew how to play, but they graciously taught one another. Teaching is tough, but ultimately, these kids are kind and GOOD. 💙💛 #luckyteacher
With 5 days left in the 23-24 school year, #WestinghouseBulldogs are exploring the water steps and eating some breakfast before heading to the @KaminScienceCtr for the day.
Happy Mother’s Day to everyone who chooses this journey in life — it’s not for the mild mannered and soft of heart. Remember, you are loved and appreciated! I see you, Mommas, and you’re doin’ the darn thing. 🥰
I didn’t catch them as they started, but this was pretty cool to see tonight. The #NorthernLights were visible in a clear Pittsburgh sky. Mother Nature, you’re quite awesome. 🤩
@TeachMrReed We’ve been working on some fun poetry - blackout poems, haiku, and “The Best Part of Me” free verse poems. We’re focusing on word choice and voice.
Post-PSSA testing outdoor recess at Westinghouse.
Football, chalk drawing, popsicles, and cheer battles…not a bad way to round out the first 80+ degree day in Pittsburgh!

A teacher momma’s job doesn’t end when leaving school, especially during test prep time. 😳 working on PSSA prep at school AND at home!
Poor kiddo’s getting a lesson on test techniques and question stem analysis.
Great ending to a week of student learning at Pittsburgh Westinghouse - first, guest speaker Ghadah Makashi spoke about her role with the @aclupa and student voice.
Then we continued our folktale planning!
These kiddos EARNED their spring break, @PPSnews 💙💛
When you’ve had a ridiculously busy and off kilter two weeks, but the kiddos come in ready to CRUSH their learning this week, you remember why this profession fills your soul. Proud of you, Bulldog Scholars.
@T_F_Berger@edutopia I “grade” them for student feedback, but they don’t go in the gradebook. I feel putting them in the gradebook is double jeopardy. My goal is to use them toINFORM instruction moving forward not to penalize kids for not being proficient (yet) on an upcoming assessment.
