NAMIBIAN GROWN BANANAS NOW AVAILABLE ON THE SHELVES | The second most widely consumed fruit in Namibia is now being locally produced and is available for purchase at Checkers Maerua Mall.

In collaboration with AvaGro Etunda Green Scheme and a local wholesaler, a total of 2.5 tonnes of bananas were recently harvested from the Etunda trial site on 08 May 2026, following their planting in January 2025.

This is a step towards strengthening local fruit production and reducing reliance on imports.

The Office of the Attorney-General has announced the appointment of Ndateelela Nelao Shilongo-Alexander as a substantive Government Attorney, effective 01 April 2026.

Shilongo-Alexander is an admitted Legal Practitioner of the High Court of Namibia with over a decade of experience in legal practice.

She possesses extensive expertise in civil litigation, labour law, administrative law, and commercial law.

She previously served as a Director at Sisa Namandje & Co. Incorporated, where she
advanced through the ranks from Candidate Legal Practitioner to Senior Associate, prior to her appointment as Director in 2017.

Her professional experience encompasses litigation in the Magistrates', High, and Supreme Courts of Namibia, as well as representation in labour and administrative proceedings.

Uganda has suspended internet access across the country on Tuesday, ahead of the country’s presidential election, scheduled for Thursday, in which President Yoweri Museveni (81) will stand as a candidate for the seventh term.

The Uganda Communications Commission (UCC) ordered mobile service providers to shut down public internet connections on Tuesday to curb “misinformation, disinformation, electoral fraud and related risks”.

“The UCC acknowledges the operational challenges this directive may impose and appreciates your full cooperation in upholding national stability during this sensitive period,” the UCC said in the letter addressed to Licensed Mobile Operators and Internet Service Providers.
