@realJ_Mitchell As I suspected they are using existing underfunded budget ... used to say homeroom but new wording makes it seem like I might be excluded as I teach rotary but do have a homeroom. Science consumables need more budget not less.
@dailystem I call it chicken. If they lose a hand they have to write one letter of the word. Whoever gets chicken has to squalk like a chicken. Person with least letters wins the game.
@ESL_fairy I teach some of those skills as I have a tech room but resources are limited as is time... when I first started teaching science I had 6 45 min periods. It is 5 30 min classes now. My budget keeps getting cut and consumables more expensive.
I wonder if the $750 supply funds supposedly coming covers a Chromebook? Science supplies? Expecting that details won't come out until late August π¬π΅βπ«
It is sad to see that budget curs mean EA and DECE dont deserve a device even though they are expected to access and document learning. And future teacher devices will be less than ideal. And encouragement of byod which creates inequity.
Sad sad sad π
@JBradshaw01 I would say he does not need a jet. 1. He should learn what it's like to get places in the province 2. The costs of keeping pilots and maintenance far outweighs the occasional need to go somewhere 3. The environmental cost of a jet with a couple of people is enormous
@realJ_Mitchell Not sure about high school but I am seeing more kids without a smart phone... either none or a non-smart one in grade 7&8.
Kids with medical needs have always been exempt.
@realJ_Mitchell The only time the kids use their phones is if they need a timer or need pictures or video. They always ask first. The improvement in social skills without them at breaks is clear. Any other tech I happen to need can be done on their chromebook.
Sure spend $30 million on a jet (aha now the island airport reasons are clear) but heaven's no, can't spend money to fix schools or hire staff or even keep staff.
@JBradshaw01 Are there attendance problems? Definitely. But that should be a truancy job and a social worker. He doesn't want to put the supports in place to help.
@JBradshaw01 Grades should reflect understanding. Learning skills generally correlate. Seems like he is removing professional judgement. Kids should be able to fail a course but if they can do the work themselves without tech assistance then they should get credit.
@ModestTeacher@NicholasFerroni If he is going on this path then people without children shouldn't pay either. People without cars ...no road taxes. And so on...
Not how a society runs.
