Friday was our Flame Test Lab. Students loved watching the flame change color & enjoyed identifying 3 unknown samples.Actually seeing the energy electrons release as light, when returning to their stable state, helped them fully understand this unit.@RandyBelcherBHS @_JadeWiseman

HEB ISD has the best staff development. Today’s PD was taught by THE Paul Anderson, aka Bozeman Science! I learned how to center phenomena with 3D learning, better use of the 5Es, mini lessons, & develop student thinking for CERs. Thank you @hebisd @hebisdpeople @RandyBelcherBHS

As the trimester comes to a close we wrapped up our unit on Gas Laws with a fun rotation lab. Each Gas Law station was fun and interactive, but none made the kids smile more than Gay-Lussac’s Law. They really enjoyed watching (and hearing) the can implode when pressure changed.

We came back from Thanksgiving break with a simple but entertaining solubility race. Allowing students the ability to access prior knowledge about solubility made for a smooth introduction into solubility curves.

@AMAZlNGNATURE If the structure is very old the paint could contain lead acetate which was once added to paint to make it harden. This made paint have a very sweet taste, like sugar.

I have an excellent group of kids this trimester! They worked on a Candium Lab to learn about isotopes. The skittles actually made it to every class. Even with the temptation of candy in their midst, students remained focused. @LDBellScience @RandyBelcherBHS @HEBISDpeople

This year is off to a great start. My new neighbors have embraced me. After our first day of school selfie, my daughter has monikered us, The Science Avengers 😆. In class students are practicing reading chemical labels & SDS. I know this is going to be a wonderful year!
