We've been learning about reducing, reusing and recycling so our last field trip of the year took us to the Greater Lebanon Refuse Authority. The students loved seeing all the garbage trucks and rolloff dumpster trucks coming in to unload. There were 5 at once at one point.

We're learning about needs and wants this month so took on Walmart today to buy needs for our classroom. The students did a great job making the list of needs and buying them. They wouldn't let us sneak anything extra into the cart. (Food tems are for our next snack cart treat!)

Visited the Lancaster Science Factory today. We've been learning about different forms of energy - wind, light, sound and electricity, and got to participate in hands on exhibits about them today. We also got to learn so many more cool things about science!

This month we learned about solids, liquids and gasses. The best way to demonstrate this of course is with chocolate 😉 so we went to Grove's in Hershey and Chocolate World. Mr Earl showed us how he makes his chocolate treats then we got to see how Hershey's makes theirs.

Today we put what we learned about cooperation this month to practice by working on a gingerbread house together as a class.

Room 5 learned about volunteering this month so we went to the Caring Cupboard to volunteer as a class this morning.

Update on the ecosystem Mrs Beaner left for us last month...We successfully grew wheat grass!

Today she came to teach how we can use edible plants to nourish our bodies and made smoothies with us. They were surprised you couldn't even taste the grass.

As a follow up to my earlier post today, after visiting the railroad, we finished the day at Reigle's Airport learning about air transportation.

The students loved seeing all the airplanes and getting to make their own to take down the "runway" and fly when given the all clear!

Next up on our adventures in transportation was a visit to the Middletown Hummelstown railroad for a train ride, which included a history lesson on trains and other area transportation, including the Union Canal

@DaveLaudermilch The community outreach - both classroom visitors and community based instructional field trips, are my favorite part of my job! We're super excited for next week's!

Our next special thing planned for our transportation unit was ...

A visit from Lebanon Transit. They came to talk about public busses and then took us on a ride. The students had a blast!
