What an awesome way to start the school year with a @southms_gf staff retreat at Turtle River State Park! 😀 This amazing staff engaged in team building activities, reflected on our “why,” and discussed learning in context of High Reliability Schools Levels 1 & 2.
A6-There is a lot to teach/learn & the days go by so quickly. I have found that when I insert movement/brain breaks that even though the breaks take time, my class goes by more smoothly. It's about how the class period or day is structured & the dynamics of the Ss. #gfedchat
@KariMelland This is true. As a young child, I enjoyed reading.
Through MS and HS, I didn't read anything but what was assigned. I didn't realize how much I enjoyed reading for pleasure until after I finished college. #gfedchat
A2-As a special ed. teacher, I don't have many hw tasks. I do teach an intervention math class & we have some math hw to practice the skills. I look at what they're ready to practice on their own. #gfedchat
A5-Modeling how to struggle in a group, then partners, and eventually individually could help students transition into the idea of struggling. Share resources & ways of problem solving. They need to struggle to understand how to overcome the struggle. #gfedchat
A4-Formative assessments help the Ss and the Ts know what has been learned and what still needs to be learned before the unit is completed. Summative tells you if you learned it or not at the end. #gfedchat
A3-Struggling and overcoming builds character, confidence, and resiliency. I'm not sure how to normalize it except to show that we make mistakes too. Maybe our society should stop with participation ribbons/awards. #gfedchat
A2-I use math games with Ss. I also like to use board games & card games to work on social skills with students. It's not just the Ss receiving special education services that need the social skills. I'm surprised with how many 8th graders don't have the skills yet. #gfedchat
A1-I want Ss to try. If they've tried to use resources (books, notes, internet, other Ss, Ts, etc.) Ts have to do the same. We have to keep trying to help the Ss overcome the challenges (academic & other) in their lives. #gfedchat
