📺We watched this short doc in class yesterday. It helped ignite a rich discussion … and a few tears😭. 90% of my Ss said they identified with the kids in the film. https://t.co/vAACVYBGFW #JCPSML#SenecaSoars#Ell2pointO
@KatieToppel @whitney_larocca @writeguyjeff Oooooh I did this with FANBOYS in my old job. Turned it into a cool game courtesy of a board made by the talented @mrshowell24. Added prompts from past test questions. Super helpful!!!
@mrandrewrodgers @KatieToppel I agree but phew it’s hard! 😅 some of my HS kids who have ZERO English take a few weeks/months of just hearing the language before they can distinguish between some sounds.
In addition to having tornado sirens on Wednesday & Leap Year Day on Thursday, we also had a kid bring a Chucky doll to school. The kids were ENAMORED and I am not sure how I feel about that. We made sure “Chuki” was welcomed & participated in class 🤷♀️🙀 #ESL#ELL#newcomers
@EDUwithEmily I teach newcomers 🥰 Due to our numbers, we even have a just center for them! Kids love coming here because everything is right at their level and they meet other kids from different schools in their same situation.
@emilyfranESL Totally gonna try this!! A couple kids have been playing on whiteboards with their friends when finished with activities, but this will be good to get them talking with people they usually don’t talk with 🙃
If anyone is looking for the most thoughtful present, my Mum bought me a year in books for Christmas and it’s amazing ❤️📚 (even better, some were second hand from people who mean a lot to me)
@MsJachymiak No, but one of my HS EL kids read it in Spanish. He liked it. Began keeping a journal of English words and exited our newcomer program in record speed. Makes me wonder if he picked up some language habits from the book 🤔
Goosebumps! What a night!! My head hurts and I still have to figure out what is happening in class tomorrow but my heart is so so happy 💛🖤 #Crew96#VamosColumbus
