Let us educate those who are blind to see and deaf to hear. You call South Africans sick. You spread rumours that we are diseased. Yet you fight to stay in our country you risk everything to be here. Why would you fight to be in a country full of sick people? Why not go home where it is safer?
Here is the truth you refuse to face. South Africa has the largest antiretroviral programme in the world. We test millions. We treat millions. We have reduced mother-to-child transmission to under 1%. Our people living with HIV are on treatment, become undetectable, and live full, productive lives. We have clinics in every township, mobile units in rural areas, and government-funded campaigns that reach the poorest of the poor.
Now compare that to Nigeria. Over 1.9 million Nigerians are living with HIV, yet only 60% know their status. Treatment coverage is below 50%. In many parts of the country, antiretrovirals are scarce, testing is inaccessible, and stigma is so severe that people die in silence. Ghana? Similar gaps. Zimbabwe? Struggling with supply chains and funding cuts. Kenya? Better, but still far behind South Africa's comprehensive system.
But you will not admit this. You will not celebrate our success. Because admitting South Africa does something better means admitting your own leaders have failed you. Instead, you spread lies. You call us sick. You claim we are diseased. And yet you will not go home because you know that at home, there is no healthcare, no treatment, no hope.
You are hypocrites. You are cowards. You are terrified of your own leaders, so you attack us. You flee from your own governments, so you blame us. Your leaders come get treated in our facilities. We have built a healthcare system that works not perfect, but working. And instead of demanding the same from your own leaders, you run. You hide. You lie.
Stop calling us sick. We are not sick. We are saving lives. And if you are so worried about HIV, go home and demand treatment for your own people. That is where your fight belongs. Not here. Not with us.
I say this calmly 🙌South Africa is not embarrassed. Not by a match. Not by a score. Not by the noise of those who cheer against us. Win or lose, our Bafana Bafana will return home and we will welcome them with open arms. Because they are ours. They belong to us. And we would rather have them home, safe and fed, than starving in other people's countries, begging for scraps. We love them unconditionally. That is what it means to be South African.
And since we are keeping score, since some are so eager to measure which country is better, which is greater, which leads, let us not forget, South Africa is winning. Not just on the pitch, but on the world stage.
Our Patrice Motsepe is the President of CAF. The Confederation of African Football. The highest office in African football. Not Nigeria. Not Kenya. Not Zimbabwe. South Africa. That is not luck. That is leadership. That is respect earned.
We have the best infrastructure, the best healthcare, the best constitution, the best agricultural sector. We feed ourselves and our neighbours. South Africa is mother to your absent fathers. We treat the sick of the continent. We host global events. We lead in innovation, in finance, in democracy. We are not perfect but we are great.
So you can cheer against us. Tweet your petty insults. Wish us to lose. We will not be shaken. We will not be provoked. We will simply continue to build, to lead, to win on our own terms.
Because South Africa does not need validation. We have results. We have each other as South Africans, a truly remarkable diverse country. We have a future that shines brighter than their bitterness. And that is the quiet, confident truth they cannot stand. 🇿🇦
Here is a lesson, young man! fully, firmly, and without apology. You undermine South Africa because you cannot stand our success. You call us xenophobic because we refuse to be your escape hatch. You mock our challenges while ignoring our achievements. So let me remind you, South Africa is the engine of this continent. Without us, Africa would be poorer, sicker, hungrier, and weaker.
Let me list what we are actually good at so you never forget.
Healthcare. We have the best healthcare system, We provide free treatment to millions. Mother-to-child HIV transmission is under 1%. Our healthcare system, despite its strains, is the envy of the continent. We treat your sick when you cannot.
We are the most food-secure nation in Africa. We export citrus, wine, maize, and macadamia nuts globally. We feed ourselves and our neighbours. We have world-class research, mechanisation, and supply chains.
Our ports are the busiest in Africa. Our roads, railways, and airports connect the continent. Our financial system is robust. Our constitution is a global benchmark for human rights.
We have a judicial system that holds leaders accountable. We have free press, civil society, and a citizenry that protests and votes. We do not run. We fight. We hold our leaders to account. something you refuse to do. We are a resilient nation!
We are building renewable energy projects. We have a space programme. We have tech hubs that rival Nairobi and Lagos. We are not sitting still.
We have challenges Yes! And we are working on it! corruption, unemployment, crime. But we own them. We confront them. We do not run from them. And we will fix them. Without your lectures. Without your pity. Without you.
Africa needs South Africa because we lead. We build. We deliver. You need us to be great because when we fail, you have no excuse. When we succeed, you have no argument. So stop undermining us. Start building your own countries. We are South Africa and we are here to stay nana!!!!!
