@TheMathGuru@howie_hua@MathTherapy I agree with the reasoning behind it, but I disagree completely with not connecting the work to the student. I NEVER criticize or use “you” statements. However I often ask “you” questions. “Why do you think this?” “How can you prove it?” “Do you think this answer is reasonable?”
This one goes out to @howie_hua! Thank you for sharing so many great, usable alternative strategies in short, easy to share sound bites! My 4’s and 5’s love them!
Let’s counterbalance all the horribleness in #edutwitter. Quote RT this with the person who has made a positive difference to your half-term.
My shout out is for @goteachmaths - brilliant resources.
@PlayCraftLearn@onedrive Thank you! In the reality of sharing devices among students and classrooms, now we will (hopefully) be able to use MinecraftEDU hassle free!
"We have a whole new year ahead of us. And wouldn't it be wonderful if we could all be a little more gentle with each other, a little more loving, and have a little more empathy, and maybe, next year at this time we'd like each other a little more.” ~Judy Garland
@MarcusLuther6 I tell my students however long it took them to complete a quiz or major task, multiplied by the number of them I need to mark… if I get their papers back before that number of hours after school goes by they should be thankful. Can you tell I’m a math teacher?!?
@edutopia Problem is as much as we encourage focusing on what they are learning, there are still parents drilling (or paying) their kids for the A… we need to respectfully educate the parents and get them on the same page.
@ZBauermaster I agree the principal doesn’t need one. Our school has a reserved space for the chief custodian though. That is necessary, and we’ll deserved.
@BookSpotlight I would want someone to tell me that something like that could help bring my story to the world.
But then I’m usually the one who is noticing this is an issue in the first place🙃
@GiftedTawk I get that feeling the first time I see school supplies in the seasonal section of Walmart. Not the first few crates they put out in June to tease us… the “ok Canada Day is done and summer stock is passé… fill those shelves with back to school” push.
@GiftedTawk@BoredTeachers Every sentence is truth. Unfortunately teachers have to be very careful if they want to express these facts directly to parents.
@howie_hua Bowie, I love your quick little videos! Do you have them stored on some website somewhere that teachers can access the skill they want when they need it?
