My favorite tool for providing online content to students is EdPuzzle.
I can edit videos I’ve recorded or gotten on YouTube to narrow to only the pieces I want to share, check for understanding within the video, AND prevent students from skipping ahead without watching
Colleagues at East-
I can’t imagine what you’re going through. If there is anything I can do, please reach out.
I’m hear for listening, virtual hugs, funny animal pictures to take your mind off things for at least a moment.
There are reports of a shooting near East High School. Police are actively investigating. The district is working with staff and families. We will have more information as it becomes available.
I just managed to help a student (through Teams chat nonetheless) by asking questions until she came to her own correct conclusion!
There was celebration by both of us
After a year and a half of barely leaving the house, followed by germs coming into the house from teenagers (from me), elementary students (from my husband), and daycare (from my baby), I can’t seem to stay healthy for any length of time 😩
Anyone else feeling constantly sick?
So much of what we need to fix in education isn't happening because those working in education are so exhausted that we don't have the time or energy to fix enough of it.
I see so much promise.
I am surrounded by brilliance.
But we're all too exhausted to do enough about it.
A stamp that says “how do you know?” would make written feedback on assessments go much faster.
Looking forward to implementing ways students can show their learning without a test
First two classes done ✅
I’d forgotten
How fast 45 minutes goes
How energizing it is to share space with students
The chaos of day 1
How confusing the room numbering & building layout are
Despite knowing differently, I have always felt I grieved “incorrectly”
Here’s a reminder to anyone who needs it right now- there is no right or wrong way to grieve
Whew. I've been waiting for this one.
*cracks knuckles*
WHERE and WHO we get mathematical knowledge from, shapes the content of the math being taught. The math traditionally taught in US schools is sourced primarily from the contributions of White European Men.
I was supposed to start teaching the last unit of our semester for algebra 2 tomorrow. I’m thinking that my students will get a work day instead because there’s too much national strife to process to be able to learn anything new
I’ve been feeling completely burnt out at the end of the school day. Not sure if it’s due to virtual teaching, upcoming winter break, or just another pregnancy symptom
I had a friend of mine who does software development for a living join my AP Computer Science Principles class today. They asked some great questions, we all learned a lot, and it was a break from the Canvas work monotony! (Bonus: I had very little to do to prep today’s class)
I've been working on adapting a new curriculum to be used with my virtual students. I just keep thinking how excited I am to get to teach this curriculum next year when I can do all the grouping, partner discussions, and physical activities the curriculum calls for
Today I did “rose, bud, thorn” where we share what’s happening in our lives.
I shared my “rose” that I got to tell friends & family that I’m pregnant & student response was amazing. Even though I don’t know what most of them look like, I’ll miss them when the term ends
