@saniyafatma1278 It’s an expensive hobby. I would rather work fewer hours than have fancy nails. Next occasion in which she gets a gift or money, she could give it a try. For my girls it was 8th grade graduation. They didnt think it was worth the money, hassle, or pain of taking them off.
@mssocialwelfare It’s these draining moments no one prepares you for.
There must be a curse on hospitals that causes kids’ maturity to accelerate.
My daughter cried at how big the boys were when I brought them to her at the hospital. And she had only been gone two days.
@theartofimani I see what you mean. It’s a great font, similar to the lettering kids learn (specifically the a). But the way it sits within the cloud has that “close but not as great as it could be” feeling.
@FuneverWriting That would have been super deep overthinking if they did. 🙂
In all my overthinking, I didn’t analyze what might be spelled if/when my kids change their last names.
Adding a middle name, maiden name or an initial could help the “sad” disappear. As for the rejections, I get it. 😢
@2StefanMoore@idrawcancer Jason doesn’t do social media, but he nailed the collateral damage analogy illustration too.
The book is called HEROES NEED HELP. My son @JRykerPowell and I wrote the manuscript when he returned to treatment as an adult. We were glad to have Jason’s help to get it to book form.
@byaliciameyers@LawyerBri@FreeSpiritBooks It’s in a series???? 🙂❤️📚
With a book about blindness?
The Asthmanaut book was already on my list, but I didn’t notice the series.
(Our library stuffies share a white cane & I keep the one my son outgrew at school too. FYI - Check out @TheButterflyPig if you need accessories.)
The tough thing about seeing so many amazing picture books promoted on X is that our school doesn’t give me a budget, and our $1300 in hard earned Scholastic bookfair proceeds also needs to replace the $750 in books kids never returned.
Still taking screen shots of favorites!
New idea!
Relying on friends to post book reviews has left HEROES NEED HELP with only one review.
So - how about #querying authors who want an elementary school librarian’s perspective on their manuscript?
Would you want to say nice things about my book?
If so, DMs are open.
@mango_kelsey Guessing your kids are super cute and will give you the hope you need! 🙂
(That type of moment was what pivoted me to author publishing. Kids need our books. With what we invest in memberships, conferences, and meetings, investing in illustrations wasn’t too much of a stretch.)
So happy for this fun illustrator and her beautiful book. (I am a text-focused author librarian opening her heart to art focused stories. Thanks for showing me the light!) ❤️
Happy #KidLitArtPostcard day! I am celebrating today with my little characters from my newly released book, CLAUDE! We are celebrating over here with 3 Starred Reviews! I LOVE #KidLit and plan to continue creating children's art for as long as possible! @KTerrette
@2StefanMoore Yes this. 100 times this. 17 years of outpatient chemo. Then multiple brain surgeries. The surgeries didn’t fix the problem so chemo is likely to restart this month.
@JDaltonAuthor I hadn’t thought of it that way. My picture book supporting chemo kids came out this month and I can’t even get my adult children to do a review! 1 review isn’t going to help those moms in the middle of the night who are searching for the hope picture books bring.
@bdomenech It’s frustrating, but I try to think of the poor college students who are employed because this job exists. Call centers prey on their brand of grocery desperacy. If only we could distringuish their spam calls from the predatory kind…
@AmeDyckman I agree. It’s absolutely a work toy rather than a gift toy. I just bought one of those thingies because it was $10 off at Costco. Felt like carrying a javelin through the warehouse.
My olive tree is not looking forward to the back haircut it will receive when school gets out.
