Extremely useful structure for notice & wonder. 👇
Groups chat & then select three questions to share out — one they think ...
1. is unique to their group.
2. they could use math to answer.
3. that's just fun.
Learned it from watching Kellie Stilson @115yhs just now. 🎁
Drew some scale models of the distances between planets today (obviously cannot also do planet size or we’d need a much bigger space). Good time learning with @YHSAppliedMath
@LuisvonAhn@duolingo@chefjoseandres@angeliquekidjo I will not be returning to Duolingo until I have choice in what lessons I’m learning and can revisit topics of my choice instead of playing a forced path. Please let me know when we can SEE topics and CHOOSE our learning path. I was a daily player over 500 consecutive days
@duolingo As a teacher, I have to say I was disappointed that the update made everything more like a game and less like learning- it’s important to give choice (I liked to bounce around topics) and to let learners know what they’re learning about. #duolingoupdate
@MathWithMalia@ddmeyer@115yhs Yes!! Read “Make Just One Change” by Dan Rothstein and Luz Santana. It’s very practical and has you introduce specific structure into helping students ask their own questions.
@LeiosOS@BenHambrecht@howie_hua You really need to make sure your students know it’s ok to make mistakes (and even useful to) and then it’s more of a conversation and less of a “panic” . Takes a lotttt of time to build that, especially with students who are tracked into the “high track”
