Boom, completed this week; learning - reading the 'Anxious Generation', positive - part of my make-up, moving - think I cracked the step count! And thanks- great support from colleagues as always (only one of me so can't do my job without them), loving it!
Let's get 2025 off to the best possible start and create a sense of hope for the year ahead π

The post Christmas self-care has began! Already been to see 'Betterman' which touched every emotion, hair cut, popped to work yesterday to mentally prepare myself and today I shall be emerged in this treasure.
A busy first week, but shows putting the right thing in brings the right thing out. A high-light was Positive Noticing Day and recognising aloud students engagement, resilience and contribution. Break/lunches packed with positivity from students sharing their day so far with me.
One day then returning to work. Hope colleagues and students have rested and that the lack of light has not had too much of an impact on them. Hopefully sunny although cold breaktimes ahead next week. Wellbeing, still of high priority to me.
Supported our local Community Centre last night and popped into their Christmas Fayre. Lovely to see so many people there (traders and buyers) and at prices that encouraged you to buy, so believe they did well. Came across people from the past and present, thoroughly enjoyed it.
Ticked most aspects of life this week. Going out and about, treating us to a couple of meals out, civilised. A bit of decorating, refreshed, then helping our son with his gardening, rewarding. Some deep cleaning followed by a long refreshing walk, mental health. Reading to relax.
Half term! So proud of my years 7s. Transition differs from student to student but with reflecting, support and resilience they will grow and thrive along with their peers. Relationships, routine and work ethic need to be embedded. But now, resting body and mind is essential.
Love reflecting on my week, from strange weather break duties, fire alarms, compromises for best outcomes, highlight is the walk round listening in on form tutor conversations on parents evening, so important and informative. One week to go but no taking my finger off the pulse.
Talking has been the core of this week, key to mental health. 1-1s with students, feedback to teachers, those all important conversations with parents, all in support of our young people. But also taking a moment myself with colleagues before entering that meeting, re-energised.
I need to start with the highlight of my week, a parent tour containing a lady who was the very first student I worked with 23 years ago, my heart sang! Otherwise modelling hard work, determination and consistency will reep its benefits next week. Now to October's project!
A busy week with lots to celebrate and a few things to tweak. The weather could have been kinder but relocation was not yet needed at social times. Heritage week projects are trickling in showing students enjoyed the wide scope. Parent conversations making that link. Now me time.
My year 7s are definitely getting into the swing of Academy life. Routines and rituals are paramount to embed our expectations. Data shows rewards are a plenty. Individual chats across the group tells me friendships are what binds it all together. Next week, maybe wet breaks!
Well, the end of the second week back, and what a busy one. So proud to see our new year 7s helping out at open evening, even touring, wanting to share their experiences so far. Looking forward to receiving the voluntary projects on Heritage Day, but first, on to form reps!
Well, the first week as Head of Year 7 is complete. A daunting time for any student but they have embraced the Academy ethos showing kindness, open-mindedness, and resilience. Uniform has been a hindrance to some (especially after PE) but practice makes perfect. A good bunch!
A great first day for my lovely year 7s, assembly, ice breakers, tours, photos and 24000 steps by me! Even the sun came out for us at lunch. Although tired, smiley faces left me at the gate.
Second week of Summer School complete where students got to know some of the routines and rituals expected in the Academy. The end of week assembly recognised student engagement, resilience, and being independent. Now to rest ready for an already busy September. Wellbeing.
Week 1 of Summer School complete. Our young people made connections among each other and with staff ready for September. An end of the week assembly recognised kindness, great attitudes and valuable contributions to the sessions. So proud as Head of Year.
Just back from a local fete. Lovely to be out amongst the community, chatter, dogs, babies and most importantly laughter. Saw our students running stalls, taking part in activities plus current staff, passed staff and all smiling. Just wonderful. Now for a cuppa!
Despite feeling rough most of my break, it has still been full and busy. So today we spent the time walking in the sunshine, along a river bank to a lock, through a park and then out in our garden. Quiet and calming. Good preparation for Monday.
