@artcrimeprof College Spanish prof constantly told us we sounded like a bunch of American students learning Spanish (um, we were). She mocked us, called my writing abhorrent & was just the worst. I had 2 more classes to complete a Spanish Ed minor & she taught both of them. I changed my minor.
Telling children who love graphic novels that "graphic novels do not help you grow as a reader," is not true and diminishes the children right along with the books. Reading doesn't belong to school. It belongs to readers. Value them!

@MissNikkiIn5th @kellyyanghk I do the same thing: put the power in their hands because their names are part of their identity. I would never assign a student a name to make life more convenient for me, nor do I expect a family to "Americanize" their child's name for my benefit. 100% respect their choice.
