Standardized tests have no place in elementary education. Because testing becomes the focus of education instead of learning. We take away the fun and excitement of learning, playing, exploring, & creating. We create test takers instead of problem solvers and innovators.

It is impossible to be an advocate for students without being an advocate for teachers. Take care of the ones who take care of the students.

Teacher evaluations should be more aspirational this year:
How are you doing?
What do you think we are doing well?
What is an area we can improve?
How can I best support you right now?
What professional goals can we help you achieve?

This shows you value them as professionals.

Teachers should not have to work well beyond contracted hours (unpaid) just to get things done. Then we wonder why there is a 50% attrition every 5 years. This year will be off the charts if we don’t change expectations. We need state and district leaders to step up for teachers.

Take time to build a positive classroom culture.

*every child belongs and valued
*identify their strengths/ passions
*establish routines, expectations, and procedures
*class goals/ mission
*students encourage/ support each other
*celebrate successes
*have fun

With the new year comes new vigor, excitement, and expectations. Lets help our students become their very best. But let's also remember that everyone struggles with something. So lets never forget to be kind, caring, and forgiving. "Relationships before Rigor".
