Academic Challenge Competition: Salk vs. Sandburg! How nice it was joining our 2 middle schools for a friendly, fun competition. Congrats to my 6th graders who ended the evening with the 1st place trophy in hand π All the kids had a great time. Thanks Mr. Garrison for doing this
The purpose of a math class should not be to teach students rules and steps to follow to solve problems. This is especially true now, when students have access to so many online resources and tools that can show them how to solve problems or that can just give them the answers.
Ratios are everywhere π€ After investigating the ratios within circles as part of our Pi Day celebration, students are now ready to explore the ratios in their own bodies! #iteachmath#mathiseverywhere#handsonlearning#SalkStrong
Another successful #PiDay on the books! Every year it seems to get bigger and bigger (and more and more exhausting π ) but the kids really had a great day and were excited about math! #winning#SalkStrong#ilovemath
Such high levels of student engagement and collaboration in this "Capture the Flag" activity introduced to us by our district math coach @swidermath. Ss can't wait to play again! #MakingMathFun#ilovemath#SalkStrong
Although none of my ss have seen "Father of the Bride", watching a clip from movie helped them understand real world uses of LCM. Ss then worked together to solve similar problems & used linking cubes to model the multiples. #iteachmath#TheyThinkImOld#SalkStrong
Vocabulary Poster Gallery Walk: Ss walked the "gallery" of the posters they made with their groups in order to review their vocabulary words and fill in the missing parts of their vocabulary notes. First math vocabulary quiz tomorrow! #YesWeDoVocabularyInMath#SalkStrong
