My heart is full! First annual Special Olympics in the #STRONGStable and it was amazing - our student athletes, fans, staff, helpers… everyone just made it the best experience ever. So proud and thankful to work at @mchsmustangs BEST SCHOOL EVER! @PrincipalPeckha
How lucky are we to have such an outstanding leader in our classroom. Ms. Helen is the best, and I honestly couldn't do it without her insight and patient support!
Today we celebrated Ms. Helen for receiving the @WCPSS Employee Excellence Award. Ms. Helen is the most deserving of this award, as she always goes above and beyond for her students. We are so thankful to have her in our #STRONGstable@mchsmustangs@PrincipalPeckha@MrsTruska
Check out this week's issue of The Creek Flow for a special feature on my very best favorite neighbor-teacher and to read the Student Spotlight on one of my amazing students!
If you notice our Jack-o-lantern outside our window, along with its whole "control" buddy, we're observing and recording what happens to each over time.

We've been focusing on the science of pumpkins this week! Students are using their scientist skills to observe pumpkins, predict if they will sink or float, use our senses to touch pumpkin parts and make predictions about growing pumpkin seeds!
Interoception: exploring the sensations of wet/dry hands, reviewing hot/cold and clean/dirty. It's so cool to see our students generating vocabulary and giving authentic responses! Best SLP and O/T duo in all of @WCPSSTeam, HANDS down! 😊

Ya' know how they say "the wheels would fall off of the cart?" Well, our IA's ARE the wheels! I literally can't do my job without the support of Ms. Marsha, Ms. Helen and Coach Ray! I try to thank them every day, but I love that our school made them feel extra loved today!!
TEAMWork makes the DREAM work and Instructional Assistants are such an integral part of our team! Thank you to the outstanding group of IAs we have in our @mchsmustangs#StrongStable!
Did you know that being able to notice and respond to sensations in our body (interoception) can help people with autism and I/DD to better understand emotions? We're working with our SLP and O/T to build language and sensory understanding each week!
Today was Science Exploration day! Our ECS class experimented with color: we dropped primary colored vinegar with baking soda to observe both a chemical reaction and color mixing. We also tried our hand at chromatography, separating the colors of a variety of marker inks!
I'm feeling grateful for our little classroom "village" and the opportunity to work collaboratively with specialists to learn and practice interoception with our kiddos! Shouldn't O/T and language go hand-in-hand?
