Think good #classroomdesign is out of your budget, or have you given up because you're way too crowded? This week, I interviewed @ideaguy42 and got twelve specific things ANY teacher can do to make their classroom so much better for learning.

@bosstetter_edu @hargrove_edu “There’s a sign at the park that says don’t drink the sprinkler water so I made tea with it and now I have an infection…”
#educacy A5: Practice free movement in the classroom before I start buying stuff. Stuff doesn’t make a flexible learning environment… but an overly-controlling teacher (hello!) can put a stop to student choice
#educacy A4 (cont): AND (is this bitter?) I want the kids to recognize our efforts to give them choice? How do I encourage gratitude without becoming one of those teachers that goes “YOU DONT DESERVE THIS” because they DO… but they also can’t abuse freedom
#educacy A4: I actually see our school progressing in this. It’s just a matter of trying to focus on one experiment at a time. They pick SmartBlocks, flex every week, pick lunch times, pick electives (at the beginning of the year). Keeping it from becoming chaos is the struggle
@hargrove_edu OK I need a way to add casters to the school tables I’m going to be lowering. Or just set the expectation that they can drag them wherever… hah #educacy
@meaganhparrish Oh I love/hate giving class surveys. They’re so informational, but I always go home saying “honey you don’t think I talk too much, right? I mean…” and then talk for 5 minutes about how “reflective” isn’t “talking too much” #educacy#honestkids
#educacy A3: OK so I nerd out and make my own planner each year. I think next year I’m typing in a box for “power acknowledgements” or something (name suggestions welcome) where I specifically set aside a time every week for them to reflect on their risks, choices, and learning
