So great to be back with students today! It’s so easy to feel lost (in many ways) during Distance Learning but seeing those sweet, smiling faces in person today brings me back to hope and joy. So ready for Group 2 on Thursday!
Martin Luther King Jr. was born on this day in 1929. Honor his life and activism with an honest account—one that does not erase his promotion of Black self-love or his strong demands for an end to global and systemic injustices.

I want educators to stop saying, “Give our students a voice,” and start saying, “Listen to our students’ voices.”
They were born with voices. Adults have actively ignored them.
We started Fun Fridays and drew sprinkle toast with Art for Kids Hub! So proud of these gators for working hard and completing ALL of their work this week!
We received tough but understandable news on Thursday. We’re moving from hybrid to full distance learning. I got this note from a student that calmed and motivated me to be the best that I can be. #gagegators#iamsomebody
Great article about the word “easy”. I try to discourage my Ss from shouting this. the author gives great alternatives- One Word to Drop From Your Teacher Vocabulary https://t.co/LQA8YjwZkT
Pernille Ripp discusses how to truly build a safe loving community when we are not in the classroom. She mentioned some ideas that I’m looking forward to trying this year
Remember: Deep listening is your superpower this fall. Slow down and prioritize...
- Relationships over rigor
- Connection over content
- Support over supervision
- Courage over comfort
We can do this. We can humanize our schools and communities. We can speak truth to power.
Just finished Culturally Reaponsive Teaching and the Brain by @Ready4rigor I will definitely use this as a guide as I lesson plan for this upcoming school year. I loved the reflection questions after every chapter and additional resources!
Teachers, we need to take care of ourselves before we take care of our Ss- Meredith Newlin’s “Four to Soar” is a great place to start (and Keonna Knight’s mindful self-care)- Choose, Snooze, Move, Therapute #teacherselfcareconference#teachermentalhealth#dayofselfcare2020
