There are moments in time where there are things on our kids' minds bigger than the warm up I had planned for today. Students need to process and feels safe to express themselves. So we scrapped it & today we started class writing or recording a FlipGrid this way: Dear America...
Dear America,
I know it's difficult now. You're divided. I know you hate all your parts. I know deep down you have accepted your defeat. It's not hard to accept everyone that's makes you up. It's not hard to treat everything that makes you up equally.
@CanvasLMS + @nearpod for the win with collaborative student boards to post their #WhyIWrite for National Day on Writing from @ncte. Love their responses! Love that they can share their voice!
Words matter! The National Council of Teachers of English invites you to celebrate the National Day on Writing today! Use #whyiwrite and let the world know what motivates you to put pen to paper.
We had fun today building new words using Greek & Latin Roots. Examples:
transjectportable -throwing something across the room you could have carried
Biojudscribology-the study of people who judge other people's lives in writing
๐Always good to mix some laughter into learning.
Sharing books by LatinX authors for LatinX Heritage Month it has been so great to see faces light up, ideas spark, and to hear: โI know that word!โ โThat name is in my family!โ โI know that legend!โ Not to mention the gracious corrections of my attempts at correct pronunciations.
