Our MathCounts team was hard at work yesterday after school working on practice tests in preparation for their February competition. Sponsor Mrs. Newcomb likes to start recruiting future mathletes at a young age! #everystudenteveryday#somethingforeveryone#weareholmes
Wow, what a day! @HolmesJrHigh@MATHCOUNTS students rocked it at the Northeast Iowa Chapter Competition today! Eleven students went, and 7 of them qualified for State! The Holmes team earned 1st place, and individual students placed 3rd, 5th, 6th, and 7th. #EveryStudentEveryDay
“In theory, if you slow the kids down long enough, eventually the curriculum will catch up with them. It’s kind of sad,” Rambo-Hernandez said. #GiftedKidsMatter
“The justification for gifted education is simple: Academically advanced children should be given work at their speed and level, both to nurture their talents and prevent them from becoming bored and disruptive in class.
Everything else—gets complicated.” https://t.co/h6CjnMuXZD
I just wrote the sentence, "You deserve to learn at the level you are capable of" to encourage a 12-year-old who emailed me for help in asking for harder work. It's sad that not everyone agrees with me, especially her teachers. #gtchat
Just giving everyone a heads-up: On Tuesday I'll be publishing an article on why gifted kids shouldn't be used as tutors. I'm preaching straight fire. Don't say I didn't warn you. #gtchat.
The @HolmesJrHigh MathCounts team earned 5th place in the state of Iowa today! All 4 team members placed in the top quarter of state competitors individually. One more Holmes competitor also finished in the top third. #WeAreHolmes#EveryStudentEveryDay
Congratulations to Akshat Mehta, Anurag Anugu, Jack Beecher, Pranav Kota and Grant Redfern for their performance at the State Math Counts Competition! The team placed 2nd overall and all 5 qualifiers placed in the top 25% of individuals, with Akshat in 6th place. #WeAreHolmes
