Good leaders focus on the right stuff. Great leaders remember that the right “stuff” is always people #essentialTruths@SteeleThoughts@ToddWhitaker - this is sooo true. Programs come and go, solid people handle the waves of change
When you look at a lesson plan, you will probably not see things like patience, and care, and support, and joy, and a sense of humor… yet these are the qualities that define great teachers.
#COVID19 doesn’t change this.

Don’t confuse teaching w/being a teacher. It’s possible to know pedagogy and not know children. It’s not the content in your head but the content of ur heart that makes you a teacher. You become a teacher when you learn to love children where they are and then make them better
Lesson plans are important, and pedagogy matters… but some of the most important work of teachers, might not be captured by a plan. When teachers encourage, support, inspire, care about, and connect with their students… they are engaged in work that transcends the “plan.”
“You belong in this class. We want you here. Your contributions are valuable. If there is ever a day you’re not with us, we will miss you... because you matter.”
I hope this is the vibe that is felt this year.
I love this! At breakfast this morning, this young girl came up to her principal and said, “Hey Mr. Byers... can I tell you a joke?”
We want to do whatever it takes to connect with students... and sometimes, that means enthusiastically listening to a joke at breakfast!
