@mitchellbyars Having a hard time getting updates on Lafayette pre-evacuation info - only seems to be located in one place and can’t see if it’s still in effect.
@TeachMrReed The worst is when you’re partially asleep and working through a work or personal problem like you are awake and then it’s stressful so it wakes you back up! All that hard work for nothing!
Like students, adults are experiencing the stress, anxiety, & uncertainty caused by COVID-19. We need to pay close attention to our own social-emotional needs to be the community of adults who best serve our young people.
@TeachMrReed As a counselor during remote I got stood up all the time! And I hated calling a parent to help get the kid on because I hoped that they were doing something better with their time than being on the screen more.
Very interesting! In 2007 this was my first home in Colorado when I joined AmeriCorps NCCC. At the time it was called Teikyo Loretto Heights. It was such a cool campus to be on for a short time as we prepared for service.
The current plan for the old Catholic school campus in southwest Denver hopes to add housing, some affordable, while maintaining its character, including preserving and reusing historic structures.

There’s a difference between writing a good lesson plan and being a good teacher. And there’s a difference between writing a good school improvement plan and being a good leader. The difference is found in the human connections.
I use this sometimes in counseling lessons so that I know if they have an idea or “answer” but they know they don’t have to say it to me and I’m front of their peers. Good reminder to use this quick strategy more often!
@TeachMrReed Yes! Vocabulary acquisition and background knowledge seem to go hand and hand as they open doors into more conversation, engagement, and learning. How do we do that in ways that are interesting for kids? I still remember 3rd grade vocabulary drills and not all that fondly!
@TeachMrReed Kids having cameras off is distressing for teachers because they don’t get enough information/connection to know how their kids are doing. They tend to fill in the blanks with worst-case scenarios. It’s a really tough one for teachers.
Proud and grateful after facilitating the 2nd trauma-informed PD at Alpine Elementary. Padlet participation shows this hit home for a lot of people. I’m not an expert but was a risk-taker to provide support for our Alpine community.
Thanks @prin01aes for admin support!
@TeachMrReed If we are going back to school, when are we going to discuss how to meet kids’ social emotional needs (and teachers)? How will we facilitate recess given new restrictions? Unprepared teachers and students = stress and anxiety for all.

I’m wondering how other school employees who interface with the whole school feel about returning? As a school counselor at 2 schools of about 420 Ss each I am concerned about exposure. Do other people in similar positions feel similarly and how are you planning to adapt?
@TeachMrReed Thanks for asking and bringing this back around. We gotta keep checking in with each other. Hope you are getting what you need, I appreciate you!
