Police raid Quakers as women met to discuss protests over climate change and Gaza https://t.co/7ZCFgk4dG1 I wonder how many meetings of farmers to discuss blocking London with tractors over paying tax have been raided! Of course neither should be - this is policing thought crime.
A #WealthTax, as well as fairer taxes on corporate profiteers and the highest earners, would deliver far more money than any cuts to benefits and public services. ⤵️
It's time for a wealth tax on the super rich and a tax on excess profits.
Those that say a wealth tax is too difficult are mistaken. We seem to be able to get workers to pay tax in a matter of weeks, the system is rigged and the country knows it.
#WealthTax NOW!

Today, we are a significant step closer to ensuring Windermere is protected for future generations. This is a truly historic moment for our lake. Over the last four years, our grassroots movement has highlighted the challenges facing our lake, and today, we have succeeded in bringing the government and all essential stakeholders together around a single, shared ambition: to end sewage pollution in Windermere once and for all.
Speaking on the shores of the lake, Environment Minister Steve Reed made a groundbreaking commitment:
“The government has pledged to work with us and local partners to eliminate all sewage discharges into Windermere.”
This milestone wouldn’t have been possible without you. To our supporters, volunteers, businesses, and organisations who stood with us—thank you. We also acknowledge the leadership of United Utilities CEO Louise Beardmore and Environment Agency Area Director Carol Holt, who have worked with us in recent months to make today’s announcement possible.
But let’s be clear—this is not the end.
While today’s announcement is a breakthrough, it is still just a promise. Nothing is legally binding, and we won’t let this urgent issue be kicked into the long grass. We must keep up the pressure until these words turn into real, cast-iron commitments.
We need you now more than ever. Stay with us. Support the fight. Help us secure a sewage-free Windermere.
Together, we can make Windermere the cleanest lake in the country—preserving its beauty for generations to come.
It’s time to stop the sewage. It’s time to Save Windermere.
Fact :It is not true that 90% of women knew that their SP age was changing.
Fact :The Govt. at the time considered it right to send letters to people. It did not do it.
Fact :This was the era before social media & phone alerts.

The argument for a 3rd runway at Heathrow is rapidly falling apart. This white elephant will be a regular & constant source of political embarrassment for the government. “Reeves’s Heathrow third runway report was commissioned by London airport” https://t.co/LpJTkfzIOY
More runways , more planes , more fossil fuels . It’s not just sitting idly by , it’s actively accelerating climate collapse in the reckless pursuit of growth in archaic industries instead of a rapid transition to a green economy . It’s why I’m petitioning for a ban on fossil fuel advertising and sponsorships – for too long oil and gas companies have had largely unlimited £££ to greenwash their filthy reputations for government and the public . We say no more . https://t.co/pfhq76JHoK
The idea that we have to choose between economic prosperity and safeguarding our children’s future is nonsense - Reeves is chasing headlines with her Heathrow announcement but it will trash her Govt’s own emissions targets and won’t do anything to make people’s lives better

As Gaie's MP I tried everything I could to challenge this decision to send her back to prison - including writing to the prisons minister Lord Timpson and the probation service.
Why on earth is this government releasing violent criminals early due to prison overcrowding, but then replacing them with a 77-year-old peaceful climate protester who is clearly no threat to the public?
And why is she facing this extra punishment of being locked up, for longer than she was meant to be, and over Christmas? Not because she's broken her bail conditions, oh no no, it's because the private company responsible for fitting electronic tags couldn't find one the right size for her, and the authorities weren't willing to consider alternatives like daily check-ins at the police station.
Do we think that, perhaps, this government might be getting its priorities wrong?
🚨 BREAKING: GAIE RECALLED TO PRISON FOR CHRISTMAS
Gaie Delap, a 77 year old retired teacher, has been arrested and taken to a prison in Bristol after being told her wrists were too small for an electronic tag.
She had been released from prison to serve the remainder of her sentence on tag, but the company claimed they did not have one that would fit her.
Gaie was initially imprisoned for breaking a law that was drafted by an oil company funded think tank - The Policy Exchange.
She took action in 2022 to demand an end to new oil and gas licences. This is now government policy.
@francescrook@Peston That’s patronising and incorrect. The Ombudsman has said there was maladministration and working women with families don’t really have leisure time to peruse the papers for important information about pension changes
