I have been holding back from directly commenting on what happened in Edo state; this is simply because I do not want to sound insensitive or tilted. Jungle justice is rampant in Nigeria because the people no longer have confidence or trust in the security agencies especially the @PoliceNG and the justice system for a very good reason. Let's take what happened in Lagos recently as a case study; A lady reportedly driving against the traffic knocked down a young man riding on a bike; the young man lost his life due to delayed medical intervention.

The lady in question was subsequently arrested, arraigned and granted bail within a few hours as she's reported to be an influential member of the society.

Now, let us assume this case was in reverse and it was the young man (an ordinary nigerian) who knocked down the lady; he'll mostly likely rot in jail without a fair trial. Now when people have situations like this printed in their minds, they tend to want to take justice by their own hands since they already know they won't get justice from the appropriate agencies.

I urge those celebrating this unfortunate incident and those attempting to further fuel retaliatory violence to desist from that path. It will only lead to unnecessary unrest and tension.

May the soul of those men rest in peace and may the almighty allah forgive their shortcomings.
