Students who are reading in a language they are still learning may benefit from additional scaffolding to support comprehension.
1. Chunk โ Divide the reading into manageable portions.
2. Stop for discussion โ Give students frequent opportunities to discuss the reading with their peers.
3. Pause for drawing โ Have students do something with the reading such as draw or act out a scene.
4. Read together โ Pair students to read with a buddy, read together as a class, or have the class echo read.
5. Use L1 โ Leverage studentsโ full linguistic resources including their first language.

I promised to provide how I organized the decodable library I built. Here are the downloadable labels, pictures of how to set the library, and a key if you specifically use Express Readers!

@EliseLovejoy This looks absolutely incredible! I dream of having a decodable library like this one day in my classroom!! @VDVReading has been kind enough to share the books you sent her with students in my class and they absolutely LOVE these books! I canโt thank you enough for writing these!
Throughout the week we have been talking about the different uniforms people wear to work & yesterday our very own CAPTAIN came to our classroom dressed in his uniform! We had so much fun learning about what police officers wear & what they do! ๐ฎโโ๏ธ #allin4theville
We love carpet games in A6! Throughout this activity, we strengthened our counting skills & our ability to differentiate between small, medium & large! We also revisited the different features of the clothes we wear & practiced waiting & taking turns! #allin4theville#preschool
