Indigenous Veterans Day was founded by the National Aboriginal Veterans Association in the early 1990s to honour the First Nations, Inuit, and Métis peoples who have served in the Canadian Armed Forces. For generations, Indigenous veterans have defended this land and contributed to peacekeeping missions, often while facing discrimination at home and limited recognition of their service.
Indigenous Veterans Day is a time to remember their courage and sacrifice, to acknowledge the inequities they endured, and to ensure their contributions are fully recognized within Canada's history.
