As I begin my next adventure (travelling & teaching), I can’t help but feel a little disbelief at the whirlwind the past 10 months at @CamEdFac have been! Feeling incredibly lucky to have completed such a challenging, yet rewarding (and fun!) PGCE year in an outstanding setting.
One of the challenges in working in an underdeveloped country has been the lack of clear curricula, schemes of works & in-classroom resources. Found a unit of maths planning on @twinklresources & it's been a world of help in directing & focusing my own planning. #EduTwitter
Just discovered the @Siyavula open-book resource & from the brief look I've had, the content is clear, concise and most importantly - relevant to the #WestAfrican curriculum I'm teaching (it's originally created for SA schools). Feel like I've found a gold mine! #EduTwitter
@MrsATeaching We are glad that is useful, we're actually about 65% of the way through a complete overhaul of the Grade 8 Mathematics book which will be out early in 2023 - still completely open. Both resources will be available in case you prefer the original content. #OER#OpenContent
@Siyavula Of course! I haven’t had an in-depth look (yet!), but the grade 8 constructions page was spot on for the Gambian Upper Basic curriculum. I’d struggled to find any competitive equivalent in the UK resources used to supplement planning. https://t.co/3ZkuPorcbr
On a more light-hearted note, one of the more mischievous characters was helping his other (15 yo) peers to stick their sheets in their book. Intervened, saying 'they need to learn themselves', but found it v wholesome!
Recently did a lesson with my Y9 class and brought a single glue stick to share between the entire class. This was the first time some of these kids had even used one. Baffles me how much we take for granted in Western education systems. #EduTwitter#WestAfrica
Aside from the obvious Jalsa highlight - Huzoor’s (aba) addresses, it was also the sweetness of duty holders and the little details of having an amenities tent to get milk etc. for my little one @LajnaUK. Uplifting Jalsa UK after 5 years and 1st one with a toddler! #MyJalsaMoment
Did you attend Jalsa for the first time since COVID-19? Or watched from another country? Were you inspired by a particular speech or session?

Being immersed in the communal experience of #JalsaUK has been as uplifting as ever, writes Nooresahar Ahmad, as she reflects on the blessings of #JalsaSalana.

At entering the main Ladies marquee, we were stopped and offered a beautiful little piece of art.
What's inside these little rolls of paper trees?

We have gathered in Basse Santa Su, The Gambia, to watch Jalsa Salana UK 2022. Although we are far, we are still present to the words and spirit of @JalsaUK. From The Gambia, we are still there with you! @JalsaConnect
My last lesson of ac. year 21/22 complete! Grateful for how my teaching practice has been both challenged & broadened.
Some girls wanted to mark the occasion with a photo. Naturally, they asked me to take their group photo. 😅 #WestAfrica#Edutwitter

Now (hopefully) no excuses that they lost their hw/didn’t copy it from the black board!
Aiming to set a creative task for students to make posters on this term’s topics to make it a more interactive display. #EduTwitter#WestAfrica#Maths
It’s not much, but it’s a start! Functional maths display/bulletin board. Resources you find back home etc. are not easily available here. Made do with some of my own art supplies.
One side to display their homework assignments, the other to display revision questions/examples.
@royalairmaroc Keep trying to create a frequent flyer account, but it says 'Please enter a valid postcode' when i try to move forward (postcode entered is valid) - cannot create an account. How can this be rectified?
Sometimes I wonder why I’m teaching grade 8 students things like bearings (ordinarily taught at GCSE in the UK), when what they really need is help with the 4 basic operations and number facts 😅#westafrica#edutwitter
Walked in 44 degree heat to collect this beautiful cake our local Sadr Lajna made for #TheGodSummit.
Such a blessing that we can even watch from our West African village, Alhamdolillah!
