I went to Tottenham for the music and came home thinking about much more than a concert. Jay-Z and I are from the same generation. I have grown with his music throughout my adult life, so watching him perform 30 years after Reasonable Doubt felt personal. He played for two hours and still only touched a fraction of his catalogue. People who bought Vol. 2 on cassette stood alongside younger fans who found him through streaming, yet everyone knew the words. For a hip-hop artist to be filling a stadium three decades later on the strength of those records is extraordinary. He is a lyrical genius, unique in his craft and unquestionably one of the greatest ever to do it, but the effort impressed me just as much. Here is a man worth billions, soaked through halfway into the set and still giving the final song the same energy as the first. He could have coasted. He did not. There was real hunger in that performance and genuine respect for the audience. Having spent my own career in business and leadership, I find his journey from the Marcy housing projects in Brooklyn to becoming a multi-billionaire deeply inspiring. The wealth is impressive, but the more important story is the focus, the risks, the constant growth and the refusal to stand still. Success has not dulled his appetite for the work. That is rare. Hip-hop once had to fight to be taken seriously. Now it fills stadiums, crosses generations and creates businesses, opportunity and wealth. That is why the culture deserves our support, our investment and our pride. The pass says VIP, but witnessing all of that was the real privilege. Jigga, take a bow. ’96 and forever. Roc-A-Fella.
