“ Chloe Bailey music isn’t good “ … yet Beyoncé told her to choose this song over her other single FTN … why did she not mentor her and help if it was so trash ?????
Meg ate every rap girl on the song except Nicki which why a Nicki X Meg album is needed for the culture @NICKIMINAJ@theestallion work it out it can be fixed ladies
Charleston White goes off on Cam Newton after he tells him to change his delivery 😳
“You’re worried about my delivery but have nothing to say to these rappers on your show”
@CillaBerimah@nibiruveryown Nah it’s not a race thing AK is a black woman 🤷🏿♀️ so black woman should support her especially when Cardi has been known to say some out of line shit borderline racist she’s not black but constantly uses the n word calls us monkeys all the time yall can like her but she said that
@KeshawnMil86771@Rapper_Chadeau They want barbz to support those girls and they’re not 😂 Nicki got her fans on lock amd theu dont like bad imitations of her songs
I can agree with this but also there’s no censorship anymore that protects our youth because everyone wants to be so rich they throw morality and mentality out
Music needs balance and options just like life does. So we need India.Arie AND Yung Miami.
The problem is things are off balance and we are not regulating things to time and place.
Everything is turned upside down!
Where were y’all India Arie gender detractors when Black elders took a stance against negativity in Rap/Hip-hop…
These conversations are not new, but the gendering of these conversations is.
Words these people should have heard before I understand and appreciate why you wrote this but as India said we gotta stop caring so much they won it’s so deep there’s no coming back from the state our people are in these kids are doomed 🙏🏿 for my lineage @niccigilbert
For My Readers ,
I’ve recently gone viral for sharing my perspective on the song “Spend Dat.”The responses have ranged from thoughtful disagreement to outright hostility. Some people have called me out of touch. Others have accused me of clout chasing, being disingenuous, or attacking hip-hop.
None of that is true.
So let me be clear about what I’m saying and what I’m not.
I come from the belief that it takes a village.
In my village, I’ve watched children live with the consequences of adult choices: scamming, boosting, addiction, violence, incarceration, and trauma. Those choices don’t end with the individual.
They echo through families and generations.
That’s why I spoke up.
I didn’t make the video because I thought everyone would agree with me. I made it because I believe silence is expensive.
Which brings me back to “Spend Dat.”
Hip-hop did not create poverty.
It did not create violence.
It did not create addiction.
It did not create crime.
Those problems existed long before rap music.
But let’s stop pretending music exists in a vacuum.
When commercially successful songs repeatedly celebrate scamming, boosting, retaliation, and criminal behavior while healthier messages struggle for visibility, they don’t simply entertain. They contribute to the cultural environment people live in.
Behavior is shaped by many forces including family, education, economics, policy, faith, peers, media, and music.
Music isn’t the only influence.
But it’s far too influential to pretend it has none.
One criticism I’ve heard repeatedly is that there are “bigger fish to fry.”
I agree.
But one of the biggest fish is the minds of our children.
I’ve been boots on the ground. I’ve participated in political advocacy. I believe we should vote, organize, and hold elected officials accountable.
But politics shapes policy.
Culture shapes people. Cont’d in Comments
