Technology Integrator, Makerspace advisor, Humanities teacher. Supporting students to connect to the world and be creators rather than consumers (she/her)
While we missed most of #CSEdweek (closed due to rampant flu! ugh!), we're so, SO excited to be one of 102 schools in the U.S. named a #CSLeader and awarded $10,000 by @codeorg to expand computer science at our school. We'll be doing a CS Week Redux in January to celebrate.
Closing in on 8:30pm, 25 students still at the Write-In. Cumulatively, they've written over 35K just tonight! Highlights include seniors leading 6th graders in an outdoor yelling/jumping jack break. Also, some sweet #NaNoWriMo prizes await (fish not included) #nanowrimoywp
Almost 10K total words in two and a half hours, and I'm not even writing! (managing too many new 6th grade writers--their first #NaNoWriMo Write-In is a big deal!). #nanowrimoywp#TheKidsAreAllWrite
Struggling w/ #nanowrimo this year: can't seem to settle, no story feels exciting, everything I write feels like trash. This AM, one of my veteran student #nanowrimoywp#wrimos reminded me that 'bad words are better than no words' and my heart grew three sizes. #kidsarealright
@ABFinlayson1 @NaNoWriMoYWP@NaNoWriMo I let my students be flexible with their word counts -- I have 6th - 12th graders, so their writing level varies a lot. My biggest emphasis is on consistent word production -- I want them to write every day. Drop me a DM and I can share my schedule w/you. :) #nanowrimoywp
My students wrote over 40K words last night during our #NaNoWriMo write-in. Also, they kept sneakily adding dares every time I wasn't looking. Every time they did a dare, they put their name down (student names redacted for privacy). #nanowrimoywp
6th grade junk band project in the #MakerSpace. I love my job so much. (For context, this project was mostly student-done. I helped with the engineering and trickier glue bits, but it was his design and vision!) #makered#notjunkifyouuseit
Nothing like a suitcase full of random junk kits for a #MakerEd workshop! Looking forward to talking #makerspaces and maker moments, and running a Random Materials Flash Lab! Hope to see some of my Maine edumaker folk at UMF tomorrow! #makerspace#edchatme#edtech207#dtk12chat
