English teacher - East London - Head of Yr 13 - Extended Leadership - Leaders Like Us Cohort 3- MA Apprenticeship: Educational Senior Leadership (2022) #WomenEd
I tweeted about getting the (joint) highest mark out of my group for my MA essay. Lots of kind people liked that tweet and/ or congratulated me and some were even crazy enough to then follow me 😂 but I think it would be nice to explain why it meant so much. Bear with me...
It was an exciting morning at The Urswick School for A Level results day! Huge congratulations to all of our students for achieving a record number of A* and A grades, which increased by 5% compared to last year! Check our website for the full article!

Direct instruction is joyful & leads pupils to success. Here is a *clip* where I use high frequency & high participation questioning in 3 phases:
1. Check for listening
2. Rehearsal
3. Check for understanding
Established routines: all hands up, turn & talk, SLANT & ruler reading
The most effective school leaders are relationship builders first. You can’t lead someone you don’t know, and you can’t inspire someone you don’t care about. Relationships are the foundation of every great school.
Everyone gets a free lunch at The Urswick School. Today children and staff made donations for a Chicken and Chips lunch in aid of @Shelter . We even had a special appearance by a chicken!

Yesterday was my last day of term. The MINUTE I walked out of school, my tonsils started flaring up, my throat became really sore and my head started to hurt. I’ve been in bed all day with flu-like symptoms. My body’s timing is elite 🙄
So proud of my baby girl with her INCREDIBLE solo. Forever in awe. So grateful to the music department at @StAngelas_Sch for giving her so much confidence, enjoyment and pride 🥲
@YoungMarita@carolinebagsha5@ruthastley@TheNCE_ Couldn’t be prouder of you!! What an absolutely incredible achievement- not simply because of the brilliant finishing product but because of every single time you scraped yourself up from the ground when you stumbled and kept it moving to the finish line! An absolute queen 🩷
A little bit of a plea for help please. Does anybody know anybody who is an experienced Level 3 Criminology teacher (WJEC). I’m looking for some subject support with a newer member of staff.
