It was such a pleasure to welcome author @LeticiaOrdazTV to Lady Bird today as she shared her book The Power of a Sister Circle / El Poder del Circulo de Hermanas! Our sixth grade girls discussed lifting one another up, building community, and using their voices with courage.

Group SCRs today. In peer groups. students read the text, annotated and answered questions, then dissected the writing prompt, agreed upon a claim, selected evidence & connected reasoning. Real-world experience in communication, teamwork, problem-solving. @netzeroJMS@IrvingISD

From spooky stories to sinking boats, the second six weeks had it all—Sora + Hispanic Heritage Month reads, mystery passages, The Outsiders prep, library clubs, and I even got to support a Lord of the Flies STEM boat building challenge!
Synthesis essays are complete. We read “My Favorite Chaperone” and “The Outsiders” and wrote about how both protagonists show struggles with identity and belonging. Kids had to have evidence from both texts to support their ideas.
The @netzeroJMS RLA team is rocking their HQIM implementation (even during Eagle Time)! So many strong text interactions and student dialogue! ✨@iInstructIrving
These were the fascinating conversations taking place today among my English 1 students as they delved verbally into character analysis, conflict and text predictions about “Lord of the Flies” with their classmates. @netzeroJMS@IrvingISD#excellenceinaction
