@TDSB_ChurchStPS I had a wonderful visit with them this week. Lots of great learning. So glad they were able to see the wonderful Church Street team and community.
It was wonderful to meet so many families at Curriculum Night! Thanks for stopping by the library. It was so great to see students trying out the centres and sharing their favourite books!๐ ๐ @JackmanPS1@modetteb@JimMartella

"Pop Its" are such a fun way to segment words! They are a great tool for practicing sound to symbol mapping. First we pop the bubbles to segment the sounds and then we write the letter(s) that represent the sounds we segmented. #scienceofreading#orthographicmapping@JackmanPS1
It has been an exciting journey for the past year learning about Structured Literacy. Exploring the science of reading has been inspiring and changed my practice for the better. Looking forward to continuing the learning this year! @JackmanPS1
Gr.1's identified parks as one of the most important places in their community. They designed their own parks that included natural and built features to meet some their community needs. @tdsbvs
Using Jamboard for our #mathtalks allows students to record their thinking. Today's question..."There are 20 peas. How can you place the peas so that they are easy to count?"
Students decided that groups of 2 or 5 would be best for skip counting. @tdsbvs
This week we went on a virtual field trip to @agotoronto to learn more about "Art and the Senses!" Students drew an outdoor scene inspired by the art they viewed after the session. #AGOschools @tdsbvs
On Friday it was "bring your stuffed animal to school" day! We did some writing about our stuffed animals and even did a workout with them! @tdsbvs @LC1_TDSB
We have been learning about rhyming so today "The Hungry Thing" paid us a visit! After reading the book, they found the food that rhymed with what the monster wanted to eat. We had so much fun hearing him crunch and eat the food when we we figured it out! @tdsbvs @LC1_TDSB
We have been using physical gestures so the whole class can answer questions at the same time. It keeps engagement high and allows all students to participate, particularly those who are not as comfortable verbally sharing answers. @MarianneBartkiw@LC1_TDSB
The first 2 weeks of Virtual Gr.1 have flown by! We have been focused on setting up routines, learning about each other, and building our classroom community. Last week we read the book I Like Myself and reflected on the reasons that we like ourselves.๐@LC1_TDSB
