First week highlights! 5th grade absolutely rocked it establishing and practicing expectations this week. We also made connections with our classmates using hexagonal thinking #SappKidsRock
Take a look at our Harlem Renaissance Museum! Students picked a topic to research and chose how to present their information. We have posters, repurposed books, podcasts, and more!
We ended the week with Nina Simone and the Harlem Renaissance. We watched the music video for “Feeling Good” that depicted Black joy and expression. We then introduced the Harlem Renaissance. Students will pick on topic to research and present on #BlackHistoryMonth
More Black History this week: Muddy Waters & STL’s own Sterling K Brown. We got to explore “electric blues” and watch muddy perform. We talked about Sterling via zoom thanks to snow. We admired how passionate Sterling is about tv and film made for Black actors #blackhistorymonth
So far this week we’ve discussed Malcom X and Josephine Baker. Among their many accomplishments, they were both civil rights leaders. We had the pleasure of watching one of Josephine’s performances and talked about her time as a spy 🕵🏾 #BlackHistoryMonth
