If I can translate, Allison:

You list Bukayo Saka's personal accomplishments and good character as reasons why he is British, as if saying he is British is paying him a compliment.

But not all good people are British, and not all British people are good people. Otherwise, we couldn't call many politicians traitors.

Saka may well be an accomplished footballer, a good person, have a British passport, and welcome to live in Britain. But he isn't English, Welsh, Scottish, or Irish, which are the demographic categories that comprise the British people. So he isn't British.

When you say "Bukayo Saka is British", young people, who are facing the prospect of being minorities in their own generation, interpret this as you being indifferent to their becoming a minority so long as their replacements are nice and good at football.

That may well not be what you mean. But insisting someone of foreign ancestry is British means we can't draw distinctions between groups, which is the basis of that demographic insecurity.

I get it, you're trying to be considerate, and set a fair standard for integration based on behaviour. But this category error deprives the British of a claim to their own country, which is the starting point for opposing mass immigration.
