Happy Lunar New year!! 2nd graders @HendleyES celebrated the Year of the Dragon 🐉 in dance class by doing a “dance aloud” to this book, exploring pathways with ribbon dancing and creating our own ribbon group dances! @MsBarattasClass
1st graders practiced their prepositions today such as “on, over, around and between” through a dance obstacle course. Students chanted the words while their classmates performed the actions. ELA and dance is always a fun match! @HendleyES@DCPSArts
Grateful to have presented at the 2023 National Dance Education Conference in Denver on the research & curriculum I’m developing on data & dance integration. An incredible few days full of learning and dancing. Now back to DC to continue the work! @NDEOdance @DCPSArts@HendleyES
For Jody Gottfried Arnhold, dance education isn’t about dance technique: It’s about creativity, emotional development, cooperation, connection with other disciplines, education in the largest sense. https://t.co/3rofvgyqkB
We made so many memories this year in dance class @HendleyES ! From learning new dances, creating our own dances, finding joy, growing our brains and making new friends. Thanks for a great school year, dancers — have a fantastic summer! @DCPSArts
@HendleyES 1st grade is exploring world dance with the help of our friend, Izzy the Iguana. She’s traveling the globe & sends us a package from wherever she is. This week: Uganda! We learned a dance, "Ekitaguriro" & played the drums for each other. Let’s see where Izzy goes next!
We had an amazing time today “Moving through Motown” with our Black History Committee! Our students had a wonderful time! We’re looking forward to part 2 this afternoon! @MsGower_dance@MusicalMsBain@TaciShaw@PrincipalDLucas
In honor of Black History Month, we hosted a screening of a virtual @StepAfrikaHQ performance for our students. Afterwards, our @HendleyES students discussed together what they observed using their dance and music vocabulary. Thank you Step Afrika for your amazing performances!
We’ve been learning all about “The Nutcracker” in dance and music class this month. We ended our unit with a collaborative dance and drumming performance. Please enjoy this performance from two of our @HendleyES kindergarten classes! @MusicalMsBain
2nd and 3rd graders @HendleyES are using their observation and ELA skills in dance this week. They watched a leaf fall, recorded the action words and next class, we’ll create leaf dances from these words! Love seeing a room full of kids working together!
@HendleyES 2nd graders did amazing creating their secret handshake dances! My favorite part of teaching is when students create together. Through it they learn: communication, collaboration, problem-solving & they have fun! Another reason why Arts Ed is needed in every school.
Look at our @HendleyES kindergarten dancers working hard in dance to organize and identify locomotor and non-locomotor moves on our class chart. Love to see our students growing their brains and showing off their knowledge!
Rolled out our yoga mats today in dance and learned yoga poses to help us stay calm and focus. We are ready to use our yoga menu in our calm down corner now! Love seeing our @HendleyES yogis in action!
Year 15 for me and year 3 @HendleyES. Let’s do this! 👏👏. Wearing my motto: Dance for EVERY child. Arts education is a right for all, not just for some. Happy 1st day! @dcpublicschools
Thankful for an inspiring summer PD at Smithsonian’s Nat’l Museum of Asian Art with fellow @DCPSArts teachers. We learned to look closer at art and use it as inspiration for movement-particularly movement that leads to mindfulness. Excited to bring this to my kids this year! 👏
