I told people I’d let them know what I’m doing here. So, I guess I should do that.

As many of you know, I’m a college prof. Each summer i teach 1 or 2 courses that don’t count toward my teaching load for the academic year. A large portion of the money I earn, for the past three years, has gone to #clearthelist teachers. But the money comes in chunks during the summer so I set it aside and try to help teachers in July and August when the bulk of the teachers are getting ready for the school year.

I know how difficult it is to be a good teacher (I am a multiple award winning teacher/advisor/mentor at the college level). But It is exponentially more difficult when you are not given the basic supplies needed to do what is already a herculean job.

As a first generation person who grew up on the wrong side of the tracks, I know the obstacles are many to give all students and particularly impoverished students a solid education.

You people are heroes; when you could just pack it in and go do something else that may be more appreciated, you stay because you care.

It’s easy to tell that you do care because otherwise you would not be spending this kind of time outside the class making sure your students have what they need to succeed. I stand in awe of all of you. Now if we can just get “decision makers” and the public to feel the same way generally. A classroom book should be as important as a football.
